Remember when about a week ago I mentioned my issues with fatigue and weight even though I sleep very well and am eating awesome that I mentioned here?

Blood work has came back and the really good news is, is that I don’t have a hypo or hyper active thyroid. But – yes, there is a “but” in there – I do have really low levels of Vitamin D. What? The first thing I ask is, “AM I INDOORS TOO MUCH?!” She said that could be a small fraction of the problem, but getting more sun won’t make a huge difference to my low levels. First, let me go over what symptoms can occur from a Vitamin D deficiency:

  • Fatigue
  • Weight/Metabolism Problems
  • Lowered Immunity
  • Increased Inflammation

Um, hello. All of the above! This explains so much about what’s been going on in my life. Deathly sick with a severe cold then only a couple months later got deathly sick with the flu. I constantly wake up tired even though I average 8-9 hours of sleep a night. I’ve been eating like a champ (you guys see it, I share with you all!) and not losing much or at all sometimes. Inflammation, oh my woes with inflammation. Hello, knee! That has been the core of my mobility issues: knee inflammation.

So, now what is the plan?

To start, the doctor has prescribed me an RX strength (I chuckled because I thought of CrossFit when she said that) dosage of Vitamin D that I am to take once a week for eight weeks to make sure that it is diet related. If it doesn’t help, then it means it’s hormonal and my body doesn’t want to absorb it and we would have to explore other options. So let’s hope it is diet related!

In the meantime, I’ll also be adding more fish, mushrooms (meh), leafy greens (I already have tons), tomatoes (ditto on the tons already) and other sun-dried veggies. I already have lots of eggs and meats.

Glad to know that it is SOMETHING and that I’m not cray.
