Barbells, Food and Jojo is the love child of my former blog, My Quirky Life, that focused on my journey through health and fitness without neglecting other aspects of my life. I ran that little old blog for a solid eight years but in the last few years I have lagged on regularly blogging because career and life happens. In an attempt to reignite my love for blogging and sharing my continued journey, I have decided a fresh start was needed with a new name. Enter: Barbells, Food and Jojo.
Although the main focus of my blog is health and fitness through Olympic Weightlifting, sides of CrossFit and Flexible Dieting, it cannot be held against me when I post about off subjects that are a part of me me such as fun with friends, family, men, love and just life.
The Girl Behind the Blog
I am a Peruvian, Brazilian and Spaniard Weightlifter that grew up in Southern California and continue to love it here. The diversity of the people and the food is phenomenal. Let’s be honest, I also relish in the fact that I can go to the beach and the snow all in the same day if I wish.
But, in a health and fitness nutshell, in the past I have resorted to pills (Hydroxy Cut), paid weight loss programs (Weight Watchers), Paleo / Paleo Zone (from my CrossFit roots over 6 years ago) and eating a dangerously low amount of calories (this continued far longer than I was aware of). From my love of CrossFit, I developed a deeper love for Olympic Weightlifting and have kept that affair going for over two years. Nutritionally, I decided to do it the right way and did a lot of research with credible sources and asked many questions to knowledgeable individuals. You learn. You grow. Exit bro science and enter, flexible dieting (aka IIFYM) for the past two years. Science, for the win.
